- <p> DIED. JOSEPH PULITZER JR., 80, editor and publisher; in St.
- Louis, Missouri. A grandson of the original Joseph Pulitzer,
- Joe Jr. built on his forebear's achievements. He inherited a
- company that consisted of one newspaper, a television station
- and a radio station in St. Louis, and in time acquired papers
- in three states, six more TV stations and another radio station.
- In addition, Joe Jr. (he was christened Joseph III but adopted
- the "junior" after his grandfather's death) assembled one of
- the world's finest private art collections. It included works
- by Picasso, Monet and Van Gogh, many of which he donated to
- the St. Louis Art Museum.
